Presentation- A Journey of Innovations in Higher Education at a Graduate Health Sciences Institution
In this presentation, Dr. Ozdemir will present three innovations that he has led during the last three years at a graduate health sciences institution in three graduate degree programs. These are the utilization of (a) a learning management system as an online course design review system, (b) learning object repositories for curricular analysis, (c) learning analytics for evaluations at program, course, and individual student level. Motivations, challenges, and key factors for success will be presented regarding those innovations. The presentation will follow with a discussion of other potential innovations in higher education.
BIO: Dr. Devrim Ozdemir is an experienced scholar in the field of instructional design and technology. He is currently the instructional design coordinator at Des Moines University. He has more than a decade of experience in higher education. His work revolves around designing and developing efficient instructional systems and strategies which will bring the most quality with least resources. He has designed and developed online courses since 2009. He has been a certified QualityMatters reviewer. He has given more than 30 workshops focusing on different areas regarding distance learning. His experience includes the development of systems and procedures for the quality assurance of online courses, the acquisition of state authorizations for distance education, the development of online competency-based degree programs, the development and implementation of a Massive Open Online Course, the coordination of distributed learning environments through Cisco Classrooms among multiple universities, the integration of learning analytics in online programs, the development and implementation of electronic portfolio initiatives, the orientation of online students, and the orientation of adjunct faculty. Currently, he also works on learning object repositories, accreditation of online degree programs, curriculum development and evaluation of competency-based degree programs, and effective online adjunct faculty development. He is an active scholar in the field with 7 journal articles and 3 book chapters. He is a current member of AERA, AECT, Online Learning Consortium, PODNetwork, USDLA, and Iowa Distance Learning Association.
